Bernie Sanders On
Women's Rights

We vote for ideas, not genitals.

Assuming that he can’t speak for you because he’s a man is to attribute policy positions to physical characteristics. When someone says “I won’t vote for another man”, what they are really doing is writing off the candidate with the most comprehensive plan to help women through meeting the needs of poor women, queer women, and women of color because he doesn’t look enough like her.

FALSE CLAIM: Bernie is a Misogynist:

Though they keep making this claim, there is no evidence of misogyny in his past. The only thing they point to is accusations of discrimination and harassment perpetrated by others within his campaign, which occurred without his knowledge. That campaign operation was a national affair and there is no way for Bernie to have known all that was going on. When he was made aware of the harassment, he publicly apologized, used the opportunity to take a stand in support of women, and did all he could to rectify the situation retroactively. (Click Link). His response shows a deep respect for women and a commitment to dismantling the systems of misogynist oppression which affect us most directly.

Contrast that with Hillary's response in a similar situation (Click Link), and the idea that only women can support the feminist agenda becomes even more ludicrous.

  • September 4, 2019: Bernie was asked if he supported empowering women and educating everyone on the need to curb population growth as a means to accomplish sustainability. Here is his answer: "The answer is yes. And the answer has everything to do with the fact that women in the United States of America have a right to control their own bodies and make reproductive decisions. And the Mexico City agreement, which denies American aid to those organizations around the world that are--that allow women to have abortions or even get involved in birth control to me is totally absurd. So I think, especially in poor countries around the world where women do not necessarily want to have large numbers of babies, and where they can have the opportunity through birth control to control the number of kids they have, it's something I very, very strongly support."

We are here today to say as loudly and clearly as we can that we will not go backwards. We absolutely must stand up to these attacks together.”

Campaign manager, Faiz Shakir said "We are proud of our workers and proud to uphold Bernie's commitment to collective bargaining rights and a strong labor movement," said campaign manager Faiz Shakir in a statement. "When Bernie Sanders is in the White House, he will make it easier not harder to join a union and we look forward to running a campaign powered by union workers."

Abortion is an issue which brings out deep feelings in people, and I respect the feelings of those people who are opposed to abortion on moral grounds. I feel, however, that these people should not be allowed to impose their sense of morality or religious feelings on people who hold a different opinion."
